Bespoke Engagement Rings in Singapore: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Your Own

An engagement ring can hold many things: a relationship, a memory, a promise, or simply something about the person who will wear it.

For some couples, finding that meaning in an existing design comes naturally. For others, nothing they see feels quite like them.

That is often where bespoke begins.

At Twomorrow Jewellery, we create bespoke and unconventional engagement rings in Singapore for couples and individuals looking for something more personal than the expected. Some arrive knowing exactly what they want. Others begin with a feeling, an unusual diamond they love, or simply the thought that they want something different.

Our approach to custom jewellery in Singapore begins there: understanding the person, discovering what they are drawn to, and translating that into a piece that feels like theirs.

Here is how the bespoke process works at Twomorrow, from the first conversation to the finished ring.

Why More Couples Are Looking for Alternative Engagement Rings

An engagement ring does not have to look a certain way simply because that is how it has always been done.

For some, a classic solitaire is exactly right. Others find themselves drawn towards alternative engagement rings that feel more expressive of who they are.

Perhaps that means a champagne diamond instead of a traditional colourless stone. It could be a salt-and-pepper diamond filled with natural inclusions, an unusual cut, asymmetry or a setting that feels less conventional.

For us, non traditional engagement rings aren’t about rejecting tradition altogether. They are about having the freedom to decide which traditions still mean something to you, and which ones you would rather make your own.

A custom engagement ring in Singapore gives you the space to begin from what you are naturally drawn to, rather than what an engagement ring is expected to look like.

At Twomorrow, we have always believed there is beauty in individuality. That philosophy extends from the unconventional diamonds we choose to the way each piece is designed.

The aim isn’t to create something different simply for the sake of being different. It is to create something that feels personal to the person who will wear it.

Step 1: The Initial Consultation

Every bespoke piece begins with a conversation.

At our appointment-only atelier in a conserved shophouse in Telok Ayer, we take time to understand what you are drawn to, how you live, your preferred budget and whether there is a particular timeline we are working towards.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you want.

Some clients bring references and a clear idea. Others know only that conventional engagement rings have never felt quite right for them.

We can explore different diamonds, forms, metals and design directions together before deciding what feels right.

For clients drawn to unconventional engagement rings, this may also be their first introduction to our curated selection of natural champagne and salt-and-pepper diamonds.

There is no expectation to make every decision during the first appointment. Bespoke is a process, and sometimes the direction becomes clearer once you have had the chance to see different possibilities in person.

Step 2: Choosing Your Diamond

For many Twomorrow pieces, the diamond becomes the starting point of the design.

The traditional 4Cs — cut, colour, clarity and carat — provide a useful framework for understanding and comparing diamonds. But they do not always tell you everything about why one stone draws you in more than another.

This becomes especially apparent with unconventional diamonds.

A salt-and-pepper diamond may be chosen for the pattern and placement of its inclusions. A champagne diamond may have a warmth or depth of colour that changes under different light. An unusual cut may have proportions that fall outside traditional expectations yet give the stone its distinctive character.

At Twomorrow, we look at the diamond as a whole: its beauty, character, proportions, durability and suitability for the piece we are creating.

Every stone is carefully assessed for quality and durability, professionally certified by GIA or trusted gemological laboratories where applicable, and sourced with care in compliance with the Kimberley Process.

Salt-and-pepper diamonds are a little different. Their inclusions are part of what gives each stone its character, so conventional grading systems do not always reflect what is valued in these diamonds. While they are not typically accompanied by traditional grading reports, Twomorrow provides an authenticity certificate for our natural salt-and-pepper diamonds.

Beyond what is written on paper, we encourage clients to see their options in person. Sometimes the stone you choose is simply the one you keep returning to.

Step 3: Designing the Setting

Once the diamond and general direction are established, we begin developing the design around them.

This is a collaborative process. We consider proportions, band width, stone orientation, metal, setting style and the smaller details that give the piece its character.

Some clients arrive with a very clear reference. Others prefer to explore and discover the design along the way. Both are completely fine.

Depending on the piece, sketches and 3D renders may be used to help you visualise how the different elements come together. From there, we refine the proportions and details before confirming the design for crafting.

Our design language often explores organic forms, subtle asymmetry, unusual diamond shapes and textures. It is one reason clients looking for alternative engagement rings and unconventional jewellery often find their way to Twomorrow.

Most importantly, the design should still feel like the person wearing it.

Step 4: Crafting the Ring

Once the design is finalised, we determine the most suitable crafting process based on the complexity and character of the piece.

We work with skilled crafters with different areas of expertise to bring each design to life. Depending on the piece, it may be handcrafted from scratch or developed through CAD before being further worked and refined by hand.

Even when CAD is used, each bespoke design is developed specifically for the individual piece. Details such as organic forms, irregular lines and textures are intentionally shaped into the design rather than replicated from a standard template.

Once the main form is created, craftsmanship continues through stages such as filing, refining, stone setting and finishing. These hands-on adjustments allow us to preserve the nuances and character that are central to Twomorrow’s design language.

For us, technology and craftsmanship are simply different tools within the making process. What matters is that the finished piece stays true to the original design and retains the individuality that makes it yours.

Step 5: Final Completion and Collection

A bespoke engagement ring typically takes approximately 6–8 weeks to craft after the final design has been confirmed, depending on the complexity of the piece.

Before collection, each piece goes through our final checks for its setting, finishing and overall quality.

If you are working towards a proposal, anniversary or another meaningful date, we recommend letting us know from the beginning. This allows us to advise on a comfortable timeline for stone selection, design and crafting.

And then comes the part where an idea you have been discussing, sketching and refining finally becomes something you can hold and wear.

Choosing the Right Metal

Metal choice is considered alongside the stone and overall design because it influences both the appearance and how the piece will be worn.

Yellow gold brings warmth and can pair beautifully with champagne diamonds and warmer-toned stones. Platinum has a naturally cooler tone and can create a beautiful contrast with salt-and-pepper diamonds or allow the colour of the centre stone to stand out.

Two-tone designs are another possibility. Combining yellow gold and platinum, for example, allows metal itself to become part of the design and can create contrast between different elements of the ring.

There is no universally “best” metal. We consider the stone, design, lifestyle and your personal preference before recommending what we feel is most suitable for the piece.

Bespoke or Signature Customisation?

Creating something personal does not always mean beginning completely from scratch.

For clients who already connect with a Twomorrow design, our Signature Customisation approach offers another starting point. An existing Twomorrow design can form the foundation, with selected elements adapted around your chosen diamond and preferences.

Fully bespoke design begins from a blank page. The piece is developed specifically for you, giving us greater freedom to explore its form, proportions, setting and details from the beginning.

The difference is simply where your design journey starts.

Some people fall in love with an existing Twomorrow piece and want to make it their own. Others come to us because the ring they imagine doesn’t exist yet.

How Much Does a Bespoke Engagement Ring Cost?

There is no single price for a bespoke engagement ring.

The diamond often represents a significant part of the overall cost, and natural diamonds can vary considerably according to size, colour, clarity, cut, rarity and individual character.

The complexity of the design, choice of metal and craftsmanship involved will also influence the final price.

This is why we usually begin with a comfortable budget range during the consultation. From there, we can recommend diamonds and explore design possibilities that make sense within it.

Bespoke does not necessarily mean choosing the largest or highest-graded diamond available. It is about deciding where value matters most to you.

How Long Does a Custom Engagement Ring Take?

Once the final design has been confirmed, our usual crafting timeline is approximately 6–8 weeks.

We recommend allowing additional time before this for consultation, diamond selection and design development.

If you have a specific proposal date in mind, sharing it with us early allows us to work backwards and advise when you should begin the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know exactly what I want before booking a consultation?

No. Many clients begin with only a rough idea, a few references, a particular diamond they are curious about, or simply knowing that conventional engagement rings do not feel right for them.

The consultation is part of discovering that direction together.

Can I choose my diamond first?

Yes. Many Twomorrow designs begin with the diamond.

This is particularly relevant for one-of-a-kind salt-and-pepper, champagne and unusually cut diamonds, where the individual characteristics of the stone can influence the design created around it.

What are the 4Cs and do they still matter for unconventional diamonds?

The 4Cs refer to cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. They remain useful when understanding a diamond, particularly traditional colourless diamonds.

With unconventional diamonds, however, we also consider characteristics that may not be fully expressed through conventional grading alone.

For example, the inclusions in a salt-and-pepper diamond can be part of what makes it beautiful. With champagne diamonds, subtle differences in tone and warmth can dramatically change how a stone looks and feels.

We use grading as information rather than allowing a grade alone to determine whether a diamond is beautiful.

Do salt-and-pepper diamonds come with a certificate?

Salt-and-pepper diamonds are natural diamonds, but conventional grading systems do not always reflect what is valued in these stones.

While they are not typically accompanied by traditional grading reports, Twomorrow provides an authenticity certificate for our natural salt-and-pepper diamonds, giving clients assurance that the stone they have chosen is a natural diamond.

Are alternative engagement rings suitable for everyday wear?

Yes, although suitability depends on the individual diamond, setting and design rather than whether a ring is considered traditional or alternative.

This is particularly important when working with highly included diamonds. At Twomorrow, we individually assess the unconventional diamonds we work with and consider durability alongside their character and appearance.

As with any fine jewellery, we recommend wearing your ring with care and having it professionally checked and serviced periodically.

Is a bespoke ring always more expensive?

Not necessarily.

The final price depends on the diamond, metal and complexity of the design. Beginning with a budget allows us to explore possibilities that are appropriate for you from the start.

Can I choose a salt-and-pepper or champagne diamond for my engagement ring?

Yes. Unconventional natural diamonds are at the heart of Twomorrow.

We curate salt-and-pepper, champagne and other distinctive natural diamonds for clients looking for non traditional engagement rings and stones with their own character.

Start With a Conversation

You do not need to have the whole ring figured out before you begin.

Come with a reference, a story, a diamond you have been thinking about, or simply the feeling that you haven’t found the right ring yet.
